Attwell house is intricately woven into the site’s unique constraints to create a family residence that optimises both indoor and outdoor spaces. Utilising a procedural approach, we systematically explored the distinct characteristics of this unique site and harnessed its constraints to shape the design of the home. The result being a composition of nested geometries situated within a compact laneway, addressing the challenges posed by the limited available space surrounding an existing pool. Inside, the interplay of light and dark materials defines the interior aesthetic. Dark blue and light grey joinery, complemented by animated natural stone and timber flooring, creates a dramatic atmosphere that imbues the home with warmth and character. The undulating pattern of the bold natural stone echoes the movement of ocean waves, mirroring the proximity to Port Phillip Bay and the adjacent pool. The linear kitchen layout allows for a seamless flow from the island bench to the dining table, enhancing functionality and creating a lively atmosphere. This deliberate design accommodates a large dining table in a compact space, ensuring practicality while providing ample bench space for entertaining. As a result, the kitchen becomes the vibrant heart of the home, where family gatherings and shared meals turn into cherished experiences.
