Collingwood Loft is an interior renovation within a historic Foy and Gibson warehouse complex, a heritage site rich with industrial history. This two-level apartment merges modern functionality with the original building’s storied past, creating a residence that pays homage to the manufacturing legacy of the space. In the design, curved joinery elements introduce an eccentric yet cohesive formal quality that enhances both storage and circulation pathways, sculpting the layout without sacrificing function. These forms not only soften the interior but also optimize spatial flow, balancing privacy with open, communal areas. The zoned layout offers distinct spaces for personal privacy on the upper level, while the ground floor fosters a sense of togetherness and social interaction. The design adopts a noir theme, deliberately highlighting architectural elements like bold red fire pipes, which serve as vibrant, historical accents. Alongside these, the existing brick walls and black steelwork of the staircase and bridge reflect the building's industrial essence. The bridge, with integrated landscaping, provides a biophilic connection to the dining area below, creating a sensory experience that enriches well-being. The client’s unique personality and lifestyle needs, including work-from-home functionality and spaces dedicated to her daughter's interests in photography, music, and reading, are deeply embedded in the design. To reflect this, dedicated zones for work, study, and creativity have been thoughtfully positioned throughout. Personal pre-existing art and furniture were also carefully integrated, harmonizing with the chosen materials for a cohesive, highly personalized aesthetic. The result is a sophisticated, multi-dimensional space that is expressive yet grounded, combining comfort, historic character, and modern living. Collingwood Loft captures the clients' essence and lifestyle while embracing the building's industrial roots, offering a warm, timeless home that is as dynamic as it is intimate.
