This renovation and extension transforms a family home into a modern retreat, designed to offer both connection and sanctuary. A contemporary addition to the rear introduces a spacious living area, kitchen, dining, bar, and wellness retreat, all crafted to embrace the essence of resort-style living. Outside, the design flows seamlessly into a beautifully integrated outdoor zone, complete with a pool, lounge, and relaxation area, as well as a wellness retreat complete with a sauna and bathing facilities—perfect for both lively family gatherings and serene escapes. The clients initially debated whether to stay in their long-time family home or start anew elsewhere. They envisioned a home that would evolve into a destination for their family — a place to entertain, relax, and create lasting memories together. The design delivers this vision, carefully blending inviting indoor spaces with the outdoors to foster an atmosphere of openness and gathering. Architecturally, the modern extension features a striking 4-meter cantilevered roof that extends over the entertainment area at the rear. The underside of the soffit is clad in timber, infusing warmth and natural texture into the exterior space. The internal floors transition gracefully from natural timber herringbone to Savannah marble which extends to the exterior, creating a continuous flow from indoors to outdoors. The kitchen joinery echoes this seamless transition, transforming into an outdoor kitchen complete with a barbecue, wood fire oven, sink and drinks fridge. An intricate selection of finishes enhances the home's tactile warmth: herringbone timber flooring, porcelain-clad joinery, natural stone, and bespoke metalwork create layers of detail and texture. Collaborating with skilled fabricators, specialist trades, and custom furniture makers, the project becomes a truly holistic design. We also curated furniture and art that resonates with the space, ensuring every piece complements the overall aesthetic. This project celebrates family connection through refined, modern design, transforming a home into a destination of joy and togetherness.
